Prior to the passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1920, the NC Senate debated its ratification. Senator E.F. Lovill, who built what is now Boone’s historic Lovill House Inn, was serving in the Senate at the time. In the debate, he praised the role of women during World War I and asked, “Can we say to them now that they have no right to vote?”
We are proud and honored to work with the Lovill House Inn (c. 1875) [https://www.lovillhouseinn.com/] in Boone for the Democratic Women of Watauga County’s first ever “Votes for Women” party. The home, the property’s historic barn, and its beautiful grounds have all been reserved for this choice and unique event. Women and all those who support them are welcome to attend.
While the 19th Amendment’s passage marked a milestone in women’s rights, we are now challenged anew to fight for our equality and rights in an ongoing struggle for progress that requires us to show up and to keep pushing forward.
Be sure to join us for this very special occasion because: “When you lift up women, you lift up families, you lift up communities, you lift up economies – and you lift up America.” – Kamala Harris, candidate for President of the United States 2024
