Desiree Venable For TX State Rep.- District 17!

Hi, my name is Desiree Venable and my intention is to give District 17 the best representation we have ever seen!

I feel that we've lost sight on what the purpose is of having elected officials, and it's for them to be the voice for their constituents, all their constituents.

It’s become evident that our government leaders have been prioritizing their personal agendas instead of the needs of our communities. This observation had left me extremely frustrated, and nearly pushed me into a state of hopelessness. My mounting dread for our political state, and the path it's on, left me no choice but to take matters into my own hands and run for State Representative. I feel that if we as individuals have the power and privilege to do more for the collective, then it becomes our responsibility to do so.

I'm tired of people thinking they are powerless to make change, and I'm here to prove them wrong. My mission is to reach out to the youth and the marginalized communities to get as many individuals involved as possible. We must develop a politically active society so we can stand together to take back power and control over our lives. If we form a united front, we can define a better future for all Texans!

I want the people of my district to really get to know me. Pro-women’s rights, and pro-union, are two principles that I'm extremely proud of! I’m happy to meet you to discuss all my policy stances at events throughout our district. Right now, the best way to introduce myself is to pass along the following:

  • My parents were teenagers in high school when I was born, so we financially struggled through a majority of my childhood. The area we lived in was even more poor than we were. Because of this upbringing, I understand the financial struggles the average Texan faces, and the necessity of our government assistance programs.
  • Another result of my upbringing, is that I have a nearly consuming sense of empathy and sympathy for those experiencing discrimination or a lack of equal opportunity.
  • In my experience teaching and coaching, it became evident to me that one of the leading problems we face today is the lack of funding, or uneven distribution of funding, within our public schools. This includes the funding of our teachers' wages. If we can better educate our future generations, they will have the tools necessary to fix the issues we don't resolve today.
  • I think it's important for voters to know how detrimental it is to our democracy when they vote for “party” rather than the individual candidate. This strips candidates of accountability, creating no consequences for unacceptable behavior or broken campaign promises. Elected officials should be elected for their good character and intentions, not only party affiliation.

As State Representative, I would provide equal opportunity and protection to all my constituents. I would work diligently to improve our public school system, regain women's rights, expand healthcare, reform our immigration system, and fight for many other policies that improve aspects of our daily lives.

I’m asking for your vote, your support, and your donations to help me achieve this. Let’s get involved and get it done!
