Texans have their work cut out for themselves in our fight against Vouchers/ESA’s in Texas. As you may know, vouchers are a form of public funding that allows parents to use public money to pay for private school tuition. While this may sound like a good idea on the surface, vouchers actually have a number of negative effects on our public schools.
First and foremost, vouchers drain much-needed resources from our public schools. When parents use vouchers to send their children to private schools, the public schools lose funding that they desperately need to provide a quality education to all students. This means that the students who remain in public schools are left with fewer resources and fewer opportunities.
In addition, vouchers can exacerbate existing inequalities in our education system. Parents who can afford to supplement the voucher with additional funds can send their children to the best private schools, while those who cannot afford to do so are left with limited choices. This can lead to a two-tiered education system, where only the wealthiest families have access to the best schools.
