For decades, Republicans and conservative activists have been building power in state legislatures across the country, succeeding in taking complete control of state governments. Those states have been the laboratories for testing and perfecting the anti-democratic playbook that could become Project 2025. This year, just a handful of state legislative seats will determine multiple majorities, protect the rights and freedoms of tens of millions Americans, and be a powerful force for stopping true Republican takeovers in the states.
Plus, when Democrats run for down-ballot seats, whether or not they win, they help increase Democratic turnout and elect Democrats at the top of the ticket. It's called the reverse coattails effect, and it's pretty awesome. But Democrats are less likely to vote for down-ballot candidates than Republicans, resulting in dropoff and fewer votes in key state races – so it's key to reach voters and get them to vote for Democrats up and down the ballot.
We’re working to support the most competitive state legislative candidates in states where we can make a difference. Your donation will power the most critical work in eight states with three clear priorities: flip chambers, defend and expand Democratic majorities, and prevent Republican supermajorities.
