Wala Blegay’s commitment to service began as a caseworker for Congressman Steny Hoyer, where she worked directly with residents—helping families navigate federal agencies, solve complex problems, and access the resources they deserved. That hands-on experience shaped her belief that government must work for people, not the powerful.
She went on to become an attorney and community advocate, launching “Chat with the Lawyer” to provide accessible legal information and support directly to residents. Wala also served as an attorney for the DC Nurses Association, where she fought for safe working conditions, fair treatment, and respect for the frontline healthcare workers our communities rely on every day.
Today, Wala serves as a Prince George’s County Councilmember and is widely known as a fighter who takes on tough, high-stakes issues. On the Council, she has fought for quality and responsible development, stood up to powerful developers when projects failed to serve the community, and pushed for accountability that protects residents’ quality of life.
Her work has included improving healthcare access, addressing emergency room wait times, advancing Food as Medicine initiatives, supporting federal workers, confronting the impact of data centers on our power grid and cost of living, helping residents navigate HOA challenges, and tackling the everyday issues that affect families across our community.
Now, Wala is preparing to take the next step in public service—bringing her fearless, people-first leadership to a larger stage at a moment when our community needs it most. Your contribution helps power a movement rooted in accountability, equity, and real results. More Information www.walablegay.com
