Donate to Waterkeeper Alliance - Last Chance for Lighthouse Point
Waterkeeper Alliance and leading Bahamian environmentalists, including Save the Bays and Waterkeepers Bahamas, criticized Disney for attempting to ram through approval of its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for its controversial $250-400 million proposed cruise ship port at Lighthouse Point, the southernmost tip of the Island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas. The Bahamian Department of Environmental Protection and Planning hosted a “public consultation” meeting about the EIA, which was short and provided no opportunity for discussion.
In response, the Last Chance for Lighthouse Point campaign will be hosting its own public consultations. The first was hosted yesterday, on April 15, by Waterkeeper Alliance Executive Director Marc Yaggi, which attracted more than 100 concerned local and international experts and citizens. The meeting focused on the adequacy of Disney’s EIA with regard to its analysis of economics, sustainability, and alternatives. The next two are planned for April 22 and 29.
