Wear Orange 2017 - Lori's Page

Dear friends/family-

I have been a supporter of Moms Demand Action since the group was founded in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting that took the lives of 20 children (many first graders and the educators who were there teaching them). In the past year, I have taken steps to become actively involved in our local Coachella Valley/Palm Springs Area chapter. I am appealing to you to help me raise funds to continue our efforts to raise awareness and grow the movement in our area so we can push for safe storage of guns in the home, enforce existing gun violence/public safety laws, and continue to fight to increase the stringency of access to guns through legislation for strong background check systems and enforcement to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and those who may not have the mental capacity/judgement to responsibly own/possess them.

The Wear Orange Campaign was inspired by friends of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old Chicago student killed by gunfire just days after dancing in the President's Inaugural Parade. They decided to honor her life by wearing orange — the color hunters wear in the woods to say "see me". On June 2, what would have been Hadiya’s 20th birthday, and June 3 hundreds of thousands of Americans will come together to #WearOrange and show their support for a future free from gun violence.

This year, Moms Demand Action is running our first ever Wear Orange fundraising campaign to support our work to elevate the voices of survivors of gun violence, our BeSMART campaign to promote gun safety and prevent child gun deaths, and our ongoing efforts to train more gun sense activists.

With the NRA having donated $30 MILLION to our current administration's campaign, it is more crucial than ever that we dedicate our dollars and our time to keep existing gun laws from being eroded. There is a lot at stake this year and I ask for your help in supporting my efforts and the efforts of millions of volunteers across the country! Please give generously, but a $25 minimum donation is greatly appreciated. My goal is to have 50 people I know give what they are able. Will you be one of them?
