SUPPORT WOMEN ENGAGED

Women Engaged (WE) is a Georgia-based 501(c)(3) human rights organization committed to gender justice, youth empowerment, and civic engagement. We believe that when Black women, femmes, girls, and gender-expansive people thrive, whole communities flourish.

Founded in 2014, WE was created to address systemic inequities and build political, economic, and social power in our communities. Under the leadership of Malika Redmond, Board Chair of ProGeorgia, and Michelle Wilson, Vice Chair of ProGeorgia, WE has grown into a hub of reproductive justice leadership, civic engagement innovation, and cross-movement collaboration.

OUR WORK

Through our signature WE Vote. WE Rise! program, we conduct year-round voter engagement and leadership development, not just in election seasons. We meet people where they are through:

  • Issue-based canvassing & voter registration.
  • Nonpartisan Get-Out-The-Vote efforts.
  • Political education workshops.
  • Leadership development opportunities that transform community members into skilled advocates, organizers, and informed voters.

We also train and support partner organizations to launch their own c3 voter engagement and registration campaigns, multiplying the impact of our work statewide.

IMPACT

WE’s work has contributed to historic voter participation and reproductive justice advocacy in Georgia, including:

  • Combating HB481, Georgia’s six-week abortion ban, by coining #PissedoffPeaches and mobilizing 11 reproductive justice groups to push voters to speak directly to legislators.
  • Record Black voter registration gains since 2016
  • Mobilizing tens of thousands of voters through calls, texts, and in-person outreach
  • Counteracting voter fatigue and apathy during pivotal elections, including the 2021 Senate Runoffs.

Beyond the ballot, WE challenges erasure and harmful narratives with initiatives like #BLKNRoe, and hosts events like:

  • Justice Just-Us Jamboree
  • Story Circles
  • National Voter Registration Day
  • Black Listed Banned Book Fair
  • #WEHonors, celebrating visionary Black women leaders in Georgia

Women Engaged exists because if Black women, girls, and femmes thrive, communities around them flourish.
