Guest Bios


Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-7): Currently serving her fifth term in Congress, Rep. Sewell is the first Black woman ever elected to the Alabama Congressional Delegation. She sits on the Ways & Means Committee, the Congressional Black Caucus and is a chair of the New Democrat Coalition. Before serving in Congress, she was the first Black female partner of her Birmingham law office.


Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (TX-7): Rep. Fletcher is currently serving her first term after beating a nine-term Republican incumbent in 2018. She is the first woman to represent her district and serves on the Transportation/Infrastructure Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee. Prior to her election, she worked as a business litigation lawyer in Houston, Texas.


Rep. Xochitl Torres Small (NM-2): Rep. Torres Small is serving her first term in Congress after flipping her district blue in 2018. She is the first woman and first Latina to represent her district, and she currently serves on the Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees. Before her election, she worked as a water attorney in New Mexico protecting citizens' access to important natural resources.


Rep Lauren Underwood (IL-14): The youngest Black woman to ever serve in Congress, Congresswoman Underwood is serving her first term after defeating four-term Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren. She is the first woman, first person of color and first millennial to represent her district. She serves on the Education & Labor, Veterans' Affairs and Homeland Security committees.


Candidate Betsy Dirksen Londrigan (IL-13): After coming within 1% of unseating Republican incumbent Rodney Davis in 2018, Betsy is running for Congress again in 2020. She got involved in politics in order to fight for more accessible healthcare after her son contracted a rare, life-threatening illness. She formerly worked for Teach for America and as a nonprofit leader in the community.
