With a single year on the Somerville City Council, Willie Burnley Jr has demonstrated remarkable skill in turning impassioned demands for social justice into ordinances that shift power into the hands of the people. Willie has passed more laws than any of his contemporaries and has relentlessly advocated for transformative policies at the local level, including the abolition of medical debt, the establishment of an overdose prevention center, and the creation of an unarmed alternative emergency response program to help neighbors in the midst of crisis. Willie has a unique ability to bridge the gap between policymakers and the communities they serve, having served on the campaigns of both Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey. He is running for re-election to fight for community control over corporate rule.
