In the aftermath of the domestic terrorist attack at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs that has shocked our community and our state, many of our elected officials on both sides of the aisle have expressed their sorrow and sympathy for the victims of this tragic event.
But shockingly, some politicians are exploiting this tragedy as an opportunity to spread their heinous ideologies.
GOP Representative Joann Windholz (R-Adams County) issued a statement to the Colorado Independent. But she wasn’t expressing condolences for the victims and their families. No - instead, she turned around and blamed Planned Parenthood for the tragedy, saying that Planned Parenthood is the “real culprit” for the violent attack.
Here are her exact words:
“Violence is never the answer but we must start pointing out who is the real culprit. The true instigator of this violence and all violence at any pph facility, is pph themselves. Violence begets violence. So pph, YOU STOP THE VIOLENCE INSIDE YOUR WALLS.”
This is despicable. Our community should be coming together to stand up to terrorism, regardless of our politics. Colorado elected officials should not be defending this act of terror in any way, shape or form - we need to hold Rep. Windholz accountable for her outrageous comments!
We need to take HD 30 back from this out-of-touch extremist, but we can’t do it without your help. We need strong leadership who will represent the people of House District 30, not political opportunists who will use a tragedy like this to advance the anti-choice agenda of radical right-wing extremists.
Call Rep. Windholz and tell her that you find her comments to be despicable. And after you've called her, let's work on kicking Rep. Windholz out of office next November - so we can fight back against the radical right-wing agenda and bring back commonsense leadership to Adams County!
