“The federal government already gave us wolves. We had them all killed off about 75 years ago.”
Those were the words of U.S. Senator James Risch (R-Idaho) in a hearing with the newly-confirmed Secretary of the Interior. Risch showed no respect for these intelligent, family-oriented animals or the many positive impacts they have on his state. He just wanted it known that killing them off was what he supports. This is the message he thought was important for the incoming Secretary of the Interior to hear. It’s outrageous and evidence of the nightmare that wolves in his state–in the entire Northern Rockies–are confronted with.
Gray wolves in the Northern Rockies are being targeted by hunters and trappers with few--if any--limits. In Idaho, the State has even approved hiring contractors to use neck strangulation snares and aerial gunning to kill unlimited wolves.
Wolves are in the crosshairs of this Congress and the Trump Administration. The last time Trump was in the White House, wolves lost protections. That reckless move was reversed by a court, but if any of the wolf-extermination bills in Congress pass–the courts won’t be able to reverse them.
Your gift allows the Endangered Species Coalition to fight to keep Endangered Species Act protections in place. We have staff in Washington, DC to advocate directly to Congress and Trump Administration officials. Our grassroots organizers work on the ground to organize and mobilize support for wolves and other endangered species
