Nobody should have to work without getting paid for it — but hundreds of thousands of underpaid salaried workers are putting in super-long hours without getting any extra pay for all their extra time.
That could all change here in Washington. Our state Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) has proposed to update overtime rules so that if you get paid less than about $75,000/year, you get overtime pay when you work overtime hours, regardless of whether you're salaried or hourly, and regardless of what job title your boss gives you.
We have a real opportunity to make this happen. Our state can take a bold step to ensure that hundreds of thousands of workers get hundreds of hours of time back for themselves — and we can lead the way forward for the entire country.
But we need your support to get it done. Giant corporations aren't going to contribute to make sure workers get paid for their time, and billionaires aren't going to do it either. That means it's up to the rest of us.
