The Eleanor Roosevelt Community Service Award is granted to students graduating from Local Area High Schools, and who plan to continue their education at a college, university, or vocational school.

The award is based primarily on the student’s service to the community, and is named in honor of Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D Roosevelt and life-long champion of human rights. After her husband’s death in 1945, Mrs Roosevelt served for seven years as United States Delegate to the United Nations General Assembly.

The Oakhurst Democratic Club has sponsored the Eleanor Roosevelt Community Service Award since 2005, starting with two $250 awards. This has now grown to multiple $500 awards. Funds for the award are raised entirely by donations from the club’s more than 200 local members, like you!
