Zoe & Mason's Fundraiser for Hugo Soto-Martínez For LA City Council

Help us support two transformational candidates for Los Angeles City Council: Hugo Soto-Martinez (CD-13) and Erin Darling (CD-11). If both of them win their run-offs on November 8, LA will have a truly progressive power base in City Hall for the first time ever.

What is the max donation?

$1,600 ($800 per candidate).

From Erin

I am a civil rights lawyer, a surfer, and a father of a three-year-old. I was born and raised in Venice. I attended California public schools from kindergarten through law school. I graduated UC Berkeley School of Law and returned home to Venice to begin work representing low-income tenants facing eviction and often homelessness. As a lawyer, I have won tangible victories on behalf of regular people who have been wronged by the powerful. But the problems we face as a community go beyond what any righteous lawsuit can solve. We live in the wealthiest council district in Los Angeles, one filled with talented people. The Westside can be a model for how to solve our city’s shared problems. Let’s be leaders and channel our abundance to create a safer, more livable Los Angeles.

About Hugo

Hugo was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles to immigrant street vendors. After his dad become disabled, he started working at a non-union hotel to help out his family. Right before graduating college, Hugo was approached by a co-worker to form a union. He said "yes," and at 23-years-old took on a major corporation and helped win wage increases, healthcare, and respect on the job for his fellow workers. Today, Hugo is a lead organizer with UNITE HERE Local 11 where he has worked for the last 15 years. He knows what it takes to win material gains for workers, immigrants, the unhoused, people of color, young people, all of us who have been neglected by our city officials and the bosses they serve.
