Hi there! 👋 It's Zach Scheffler. I'm running a tough race for State Rep here in Franklin 8. With your help we can kick this campaign into high gear!

(Franklin 8 includes parts of St. Albans City and St. Albans Town. You'll find a map of the district here)

I filed to run this past May, and I'm excited! (Almost as excited as I look in this photo with Alice)

A bit of backstory for folks who don't know me: St. Albans was my first home. I spent my early years in a little apartment on South Main Street with my mom and dad. He worked nights and she took care of me. After a year or two we moved into a half-finished home in the woods of Montgomery.

Out there, you learn to do a lot on your own. You grow up on old cars, big gardens, long drives, and elbow grease. I learned from teachers of all kinds growing up. As a home-schooler, I relied on public school for the things I couldn't get at home. During my time at community college, I volunteered as an EMT. I'd go on to graduate from Castleton State College.

After graduation I returned to St. Albans. I worked at the community newspaper and public television station back then. Like my parents, I was able to find an affordable apartment that Alice and I have called home for 10 years now. It's also where I work at Front Porch Forum as a community manager. Outside the 9 to 5, you'll find me active in my community. You meet so many wonderful people that way! I'm a board member of our young professionals network, the city energy committee, and my local Democratic Party. I also enjoy organizing fun things to do around town with friends and neighbors.

Why am I running? I'm running to unite neighbors, lower costs, and expand freedoms to more Vermonters. And I hope to have an honest conversation about the past six years in this district.

To me, that means hearing folks out across differences. It means fixing what’s broken and tuning up what works. It means giving your average Joe a break. It means asking folks who get the most out of Vermont to invest a little more back into it. And it means making damn sure that everybody has a chance at a better life in this state — no matter where they're from, what they look like, when they were born, or which side of the tracks they're on.

As friends and neighbors, you've given me so much. As your next legislator, I'm excited to give back, buckle down, and get things done.

Warmly,
