In 1992, Colorado earned the title of “the Hate State” when voters approved a state constitutional amendment aimed squarely at tearing down protections for LGBT individuals. Then in 2006, voters approved another constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Six short years later, spurred by widespread outrage over underhanded GOP tactics to block civil unions, Colorado House Democrats retook the majority, and in short order we elected the first openly gay Speaker of the House, passed civil unions, and implemented a sweeping anti-discrimination law to expand protections against discriminatory practices in the workplace.
Now, in 2015, the Supreme Court has made it official: marriage equality is the law of the land!
As co-chairs of the House LGBT Caucus, we are so proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish over the last three years for loving LGBT couples - but we couldn’t have done it without a Democratic majority in the legislature. Click here to support a strong Democratic majority in the State House, so we can continue to fight for LGBT rights!
We’ve won this battle, and it’s a major one - but the fight to ensure equal protection is far from over.
This session, the GOP continued their attacks on the LGBT community: blocking efforts to ban the dangerous “gay conversion therapy,” and - worst of all - trying to roll back key protections against discrimination in the workplace!
WE NEED YOUR HELP to keep a Democratic majority in the State House and prevent the GOP-controlled Senate from repealing all of the progress we’ve made. Can we count on you to contribute $10, $25, or even $100 to protect our champions for the LGBT community in the State House?
As always, thank you for your support - and your efforts to build a better future for ALL Coloradans.
Sincerely,
Rep. Joann Ginal
Rep. Paul Rosenthal
