UPDATE 10/31 9:33am: I've matched all the donations made here and the couple that I heard were made in my name on the main NoOnProp8 site.
All donations made here go directly to No On Prop 8.
Check out the latest ad that started running the other night. Your dollars help get it on the air.
Latest news from NoOnProp8...
Yesterday, the other side reported donations of $2.2 million, dwarfing the $255,650 we reported, and called on their donors to contribute another $3 million.
With this enormous sum of money they are buying every available ad space on TV in California to blast even more of their hateful lies and prevent our messages from being seen.
Unless we raise $3 million in the next three days we will likely lose.
Although I live in Illinois, Prop 8 in California will have a greater personal impact on me than any election decision of my lifetime. If the voters of California strip the right of marriage away from same sex couples in their state, it will be an enormous setback in the broader cause of full equality in this country. If voters affirm this basic right for their neighbors, it will add to our growing momentum and speed the pace of change everywhere.
My birthday is less than a week before election day. I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy many of the things I want, but I can't go to the store and buy what I NEED -- full equality. But in this election, money can make a difference.
By providing financial resources, we can help put TV ads on the air that dispel the lies the proponents of this proposition are slinging. I firmly believe truth can win out, but the truth needs to be heard, and you can help make that happen.
I'll be 39 tomorrow, so I don't want to wait a decade or so while we work to undo the damage the passage of Prop 8 would cause. For my birthday, in lieu of a card or gift, I ask that you please make a contribution to this critical cause, and please pass this request on to everyone you know that believes in fairness. Rather than a dollar amount goal, I'd like to see a lot of people take some action. I've set a goal of 39 people making a donation, and I can only reach that goal if you help recruit supporters. Any amount makes a difference! I just want to see 1 person for every year I've been alive show their support.
Times seem tough at the moment, but holding back on acting now would be "penny-wise and pound-foolish." What price do you put on doing what's right? How much would we need to contribute to regain the ground we could lose in this election? Stock prices will come up again before another opportunity like this comes along. Let's seize this opportunity!
Thank you for helping make this my best birthday ever!
If you know anyone in California, make sure they are voting NO on Prop 8!
