The ballot description for Proposition 8 makes it perfectly clear. Prop 8 "eliminates the right of same sex couples to marry."

This is one of the most divisive, and I believe significant issues of our time. If California passes prop 8, we are effectively saying "the time of discrimination is alive and well". Many of us like to believe that the civil rights battles of the 60s and 70s have been won and are over. Well, here comes prop 8 to test our faith!

Please, help me defeat this attempt to permanently make a bigoted policy the law of the land. Donate to this campaign today.

And now, I'm going to begin my "preachy" part of my schpiel: if you're already convinced, you can skip it!:

PREACH ON: The proponents of Prop 8 repeatedly claim that this is about "lifestyle choice", "values", and about "how we educate our children". What virtually nobody seems to be saying, is that this proposition is intended to enshrine descrimination in the California Constitution. This isn't about choice or lifestyle - it's about standing up for what's right. Regardless of how you may feel about gay lifestyles, you have a moral obligation to combat discrimination and promote equality. It's a moral imperative.
In 2008, virtually nobody would stand up in Congress and promote descrimination against people of color - but sixty years ago that discussion was commonplace. And back then, they used the same arguments for promoting racial discrimination as the proponents of Prop 8 are using today: religious arguments, social arguments, values, and "protecting children". We look back on those days now and shake our heads - and yet many of the same people don't see the connection to the gay marriage issue.
This is a continuation of the same battle - the fight to achieve the same social status for all human beings. I assume that fifty years from now, we'll look back on this discussion and think, "what an embarrassment." But only if you take action now.

Whew! PREACH OFF!

No On Prop 8, Equality For All is the coalition that is leading the fight to defeat Prop 8 and defend the fundamental right to marry for all Californians. Help me help them. Contribute to my fundraising page today!

Help me make the future we want to see.
