The ballot description for Proposition 8 makes it perfectly clear. Prop 8 "eliminates the right of same sex couples to marry."
One of the most important aspects of the 2008 election for Californians is to ensure that the civil rights of our gay and lesbian citizens are not curtailed. The opponents of proposition 8 are woefully underfunded compared to proponents of the measure (http://www.latimes.com/la-moneymap,0,4554596.htmlstory). Most notably, proponents have the financial backing of the Mormon church behind them. In short, the "vote no on Prop. 8" movement needs all the money it can get. I encourage anyone who has a few extra bucks to donate to the opponents of this measure. The elimination of the right of same-sex couples to marry would be a huge step backward for both California and the country as a whole.
