UPDATE: BECAUSE OF THE AMAZING RESPONSE BY YOU, MY FRIENDS, I HAVE CHANGED MY PLANS - I'M GOING TO MAINE FOR TWO, COUNT 'EM, TWO WEEKS. THE GOAL HAS BEEN CHANGED TO REFLECT THIS. CAN WE MAKE IT TO $750?
One year ago, California was Ground Zero in the fight for marriage equality. That didn't go the way we wanted, but now we have another chance to stand for equality for all. I'm excited for a rematch, and today's battlefield is Maine.
On May 6, 2009 Maine's legislature voted to grant legal recognition of same-sex marriages, and ever since, the same people who ran the Yes on 8 campaign have been working to take those rights back at the ballot box this November. They're using the same tactics - ads that slyly hint that churches will be closed and children will be corrupted if people like me are allowed to marry - and today the polls show a dead heat. If we're going to win, it's going to take all we've got. That's why I am taking a week out of my life to fly to Maine to work on this campaign 24/7.
Between plane fare, contributing to a shared rental car, and needing to eat, I need to fundraise around $500. I'll take care of $100 of that, which means if I can get twenty friends to donate twenty dollars, a single $20 bill, we can make this thing happen. (Of course, if you can give more, that'd be amazing.) Let me be your representative in this fight. Support me, and I'll stand for you, and together, we'll see victory in Maine.
