This week, we have some exciting new faces to highlight. Mark Begich is running in a tight Senate race in Alaska while Marge Krupp is fighting to win a seat in the House in Wisconsin's 1st District. We're also proud to highlight Congressman Keith Ellison from Minneapolis, in Minnesota's 5th District. He's been a great candidate since we backed his first run in 2006. Let's send Mark, Keith and Marge to victory on November 4th!

Mark Begich

For this week's Senate spotlight, we have a rising star in Alaskan politics. Mark Begich has done terrific things as mayor of Anchorage, and is now looking to do the same for Alaska in the U.S. Senate. A diplomat by nature, Begich believes "The United States needs to rebuild its reputation in the international arena and increase our diplomatic efforts in conflict torn regions. Doing so we help repair strategic alliances and support our economic military efforts." Mark Begich would be a terrific improvement to the United States Senate

Our incumbent of the week is Keith Ellison, from Minnesota's 5th District. As a Freshman in the 110th Congress, Ellison managed to earn himself an A+ rating on our 2008 Congressional Report Card. But what makes this candidate stand out is what he did beyond making good votes. He earned extra credit for his climate change, human rights, and conflict resolution efforts. He traveled to Norway in January 2008 to learn about climate change and to reinforce the joint research being conducted on renewable energy between Norwegian universities and the University of Minnesota. Upon his return, he addressed the Environmental Justice Advocates of Minnesota, which he helped found in 2003. He also convened a forum called 'Iran: Confrontation or Negotiation?' and is an advocate for the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace. After such a terrific start, it would be great to see Keith Ellison win a second term.

Marge Krupp

Our House challenger hails from Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District, nestled south of Madison and Milwaukee and including the towns of Racine, Kenosha and Janesville. Marge Krupp is running to replace ten-year incumbent Paul Ryan. A globalist at heart, Krupp believes "that as global superpower, the United States is in a unique position to provide for global defense and security. However, I also believe that this position on the global stage comes with the responsibility of providing for and promoting peace and common goals throughout the world. The United States as the preeminent global military superpower should also be the preeminent global superpower on promoting that all peoples of the world have equal access to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Marge Krupp is the right person for this seat in Congress.
