Contribute Now to That OTHER important November election issue...

by Craig Convissar

Hi all,

I know that times are tough these days and the last thing you need is somebody hitting you up for money. However, I couldn't in good conscience sit by and watch what's unfolding in California without trying to do a little something to help. Plus, I'm only sending this on to people who I know will not get annoyed with me for doing so...

As you all probably know, there's an initiative on the ballot in CA (infamously known as "Prop 8") for the upcoming election that would amend the state constitution and take away the marriage rights granted to same sex couples by the California Supreme Court in May of this year. Though for a while it had seemed that the initiative would likely fail, recent polls are showing that Prop 8 is gaining support, and the "No on 8" side is now falling behind. Part of the reason for this is that the "Yes on 8" side is being bankrolled by huge donors (many from outside of CA) that have put them at an advantage of about $10 million. These funds allow them to produce hateful and misleading campaign ads (which, in California, is pretty much the only effective way of reaching large portions of the public), and these ads have likely contributed to the shift in public opinion.

So, I don't want to shake you down too much - but we cannot let this happen, especially in light of the recent success the marriage equality movement has had in Connecticut. So, if you can give a few dollars, great - the minimum payment is $5, and even THAT little bit helps. It's essential that we stand up for equality, and stop California from writing discrimination into their state constitution.

Thanks so much, Craig

The ballot description for Proposition 8 makes it perfectly clear. Prop 8 "eliminates the right of same sex couples to marry."

No On Prop 8, Equality For All is the coalition that is leading the fight to defeat Prop 8 and defend the fundamental right to marry for all Californians. Help me help them. Contribute to my fundraising page today!
