Meet Deb

Deb Goldberg headshotDeb Goldberg is running for Treasurer to improve the economic security and stability of families throughout Massachusetts.

Deb learned at a young age that business acumen and progressive values are not mutually exclusive. From the beginning her family built a company, Stop and Shop, into a place where thousands of hardworking families for two to three generations could have good paying union jobs and build long-term careers with excellent benefits. Deb worked at Stop and Shop, first as a retail clerk in UFCW 1445, and then onto executive positions within the company.

Deb served for six years on the Brookline Board of Selectmen, the last two as its Chair. She led initiatives to revitalize Brookline’s commercial areas, increase the availability of affordable housing, worked with the Retirement Board on pension funding, cost of living adjustments, and brought policy budgeting to the forefront.

Deb is President of Adoptions With Love, is on the Executive Committee of The Center for Collaborative Education, and is on the Board of Health Care Associates, which manages the Physicians Group for Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. She is the Massachusetts Senate President’s appointee to the Treasurer’s Commonwealth Covenant Fund, providing tuition reimbursement to graduates in need, who attended state colleges and work in science, technology, engineering, and math fields.

Deb has devoted her time and energy to numerous non-profits and institutions throughout the state, including The Greater Boston Food Bank, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, and has been working on an initiative to mitigate obesity within immigrant and minority women in the City of Boston.

Deb is a graduate of Boston University, Boston College Law School, and Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. She grew up in Brookline where she still lives with her husband, Michael Winter, their son and daughter, Evan and Meredith.
