Many of my close homosexual friends and colleagues have been "tying the knot" lately. At first glance I see it as just another ceremony I probably will not attend. I have no intention of getting married, at least not anytime soon. I enjoy being single and love my life, my dogs and my sobriety. So, good for the happy couples I say. Then I take a closer look and see that there is more to all of this. These men and women are taking action before Proposition 8 which, if passed, will make gay unions unrecognized in California. They are scared. Something is happening and I am waking up to the fact that my life as a citizen of the USA could change. My rights could be taken from me! What next? I don't want to sit idly by and wait to find out...
The ballot description for Proposition 8 makes it perfectly clear. Prop 8 "eliminates the right of same sex couples to marry."
No On Prop 8, Equality For All is the coalition that is leading the fight to defeat Prop 8 and defend the fundamental right to marry for all Californians. Help me help them. Contribute to my fundraising page today!
