According to recent polls, 60% of Jewish voters support Obama. This 2:1 margin over McCain shows considerably lower levels of support than the 3:1 or even 4:1 Democratic to Republican margins of recent elections. This difference amounts to at least 500,000 votes nationally; tens of thousands in a swing state like Florida. The campaign to discredit Obama in the Jewish community is working.
The Jewish Council for Education & Research (JCER) was created to develop and communicate information to voters in the United States around issues of concern to the Jewish community. Among its various outreach initiatives, it is the only federal PAC building Jewish support for Obama and other candidates. JCER is developing a campaign to help Jews take responsibility for identifying and persuading swing voters in our own communities - among our friends and families - and in key swing states.
JCER will help users to generate phone and email banks. Campaign activists will design and place ads. More intimate JCER-facilitated salons will replace town-hall style meetings. JCER will supplement these efforts with an intensive swing district canvassing project conducted by motivated Jewish advocates for change. In keeping with the spirit of Democratic grassroots activism and the utility of Web 2.0 technology, our campaign aims to maximize volunteers’ control over the tools we provide.
One of our goals is to harness the energy of thousands of Obama’s Jewish supporters to deliver three out of four Jewish votes for Obama.
But none of this will be possible without your support. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
