Hello!
I created this page because I strongly disagree with changing the California Constitution to discriminate against any group of people.
Proposition 8 would amend the California Constitution to discriminate against a group of people: homosexuals.
In May, the California Supreme Court ruled that restricting marriage by gender violates the Constitution's guarantee for equal protection of all people under the law. The only way to change that is to change the Constitution, and fundamentalist regious groups, many outside California, have been pouring millions of dollars into Proposition 8 to do just that.

The fundamentalists supporting Prop 8 have pledged to raise $3 million in the closing days of the campaign to buy up all the California TV air time. Please donate here on my page to help counter them!
The opposition:
The religious right is calling Proposition 8 its "decisive last stand" - an "Armageddon"-like battle to pass a ballot measure that would "eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry."
This Saturday, several ultra-right-wing religious groups will be gathering 70,000 evangelicals together in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium for "The Call" - a mega-church event that will mobilize thousands of out-of-state volunteers to get out the vote in Califonia.

At a recent Prop 8 rally an official campaign spokesman actually compared the right of same-sex couples to marry to the rise of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany.

On October 23, donors and supporters of Equality California began receiving letters threatening to "expose" the donors listed on Equality California's website if they don't "donate in a like manner" to the "Yes on 8" campaign.

"Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation. An individual's sexual orientation - like a person's race or gender - does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights." - Chief Justice Ronald George
