Congressman Jim McGovern's 54th Birthday

This Wednesday, my husband Jim will celebrate his 54th birthday. This year, as much as ever, I've been so proud of Jim, and of all he is fighting for in Massachusetts and Washington.

It's been a busy year. In 2013, Jim has fought to create job opportunities at fair wages for citizens across the 2nd Congressional District and walked 26 miles to raise money for a food bank. He's been a vocal advocate for families living on food stamps, led the charge to bring our troops home from Afghanistan, worked to bring major mass transportation additions to Massachusetts, and been a tireless champion for countless constituents.

It's also been a difficult year in Washington. I see every day how hard Jim fights for the values we all believe in. But I also know the road ahead could be even tougher. I know that the extreme right wing wants nothing more than to have Jim - one of the strongest voices we have against big money in politics - out of Congress. Indeed, the Tea Party forces are already working to figure out how they can beat him next year. We're expecting a challenge, and need to be ready.
