After winning his initial Democratic congressional primary by just 44 votes in what was then Detroit's 1st District, the people have continued to re-elect John Conyers, Jr. to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a strong advocate for the disenfranchised and a powerful proponent of justice for all, John Conyers, Jr. began his service to the people of Detroit by working to pass the monumental Voting Rights Act of 1965. Ever since, he is unsurpassed at introducing and passing legislation that profoundly influence and improve the quality of life of his constituents, the state of Michigan and the nation as a whole.
