The Blue Soirée

Join the Democrats of Jefferson County for The Blue Soirée at the historic Claymont Court Mansion, hosted by the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee!


We'll enjoy an evening of socializing, fellowship, live music, a DJ and an exciting auction, along with remarks by WV's US Senate Candidate, Rachel Fetty Anderson, brief introductions to our local slate of Jefferson County Democratic candidates, and a keynote speech from our honored guest, former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn.

Attire: Guests are encouraged to incorporate blue into their dress for the event.


The Venue:


Claymont Court was built for Bushrod Corbin Washington, George Washington's grand-nephew and later became home to famed author Frank Stockton and then Elsie Bogardus Murphy, Jefferson County's most prominent philanthropist. The 16,000 square foot mansion is considered the grandest of the Washington Family homes in Jefferson County.


The Speaker:


Harry Dunn joined the United States Capitol Police Force in 2008. He served as a first responder and as a member of the Capitol Police Crisis Negotiation Team. In 2017, he was named a field training officer.


On January 6th, 2021, Dunn was on duty outside the Capitol, but was called inside to guard an area where injured officers were stationed, as well as Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office. Dunn advocated for the creation of a commission to investigate January 6th and later testified before that Committee.


In 2021 he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and in 2023 President Biden awarded him the Presidential Citizens Medal.


Dunn holds a BS in public health from James Madison University, where he played football.


Since leaving the police force in 2023, he wrote a book, Standing My Ground: A Capitol Police Officer's Fight for Accountability and Good Trouble After January 6th. Dunn lost a close primary race for the United States House in Maryland this year.
